George Toriello sent me this researched information on Stephenson W. Demarest on January 22, 2020.

Stephenson W. Demarest’s name is on the Plaque at City Hall in Hackensack paying tribute to those who died while in service during World War II.  According to Military Records Stephenson W. Demarest was born on
July 8, 1924. The 1940 Census reveals Stephenson W. Demarest was living with his family at 141 Clinton Place Hackensack, NJ.  Stephenson W. Demarest enlisted into the Army on August 5, 1943 and served with the 110th Infantry Regiment 28th Infantry Division.

On September 29, 1944 while in the Ardennes Forest in France, which was the very beginning of the Battle of the Bulge, Stephenson W. Demarest, age 20, was Killed in Action, the source of this information is the 110th Infantry Regiment website.

Stephenson W. Demarest may have been repatriated after being buried in Ardennes, Department
Du Puy-De-Dome, Auvergne, France. If he was, I do not know when, but there is a Military grave marker where Stephenson W. Demarest may be buried now in Hackensack Cemetery, Hackensack, NJ.

I cannot state for certain if he was repatriated unless we find documents because others, such as
Harold Dillard Vietnam War and Albert Klaiber World War I have grave markers at Hackensack Cemetery, but are buried overseas.
